rear stationary gear oil leak ?

ok, i think i have figured where my oil leak is coming from. my ? is...

if the rear stationary gear is leaking, is that going to seriously hurt the motor? do i avoid driving the car hard? and just baby it till i get it fixed or get a rebuild. can i get away with this leak if i always make sure i have my oil up to par?

i need some rotary experts advice here? as i just installed a light weight f/w and a 6 puck clutch and i have been driving her hard =)

Is it leaking from the eccentric seal, or the gear itself?

If it's just the seal, then pull the flywheel and replace the seal.

If it's the actual gear flange that's leaking, then it's more of a pain in the ***. There is an o-ring that seals the rear stationary to the rear housing. If you are brave, and the leak is large enough to warrent fixing, then you can pull the rear stationary gear and replace the o-ring. The engine MUST NOT ROTATE AT ALL while the gear is out.

If it's just a tiny little leak, then I wouldn't worry too much unless it's fouling your clutch or leaving puddles.

thanks...

well it does leave a puddle after every drive. about the size of a hardball. not to big but its all the time. the thing is im not for sure that thats where its coming from. i just got the f/w and clutch installed. the mechanic said he changed the rear main seal. i replaced the 2 oil rings in the oil filter neck thingy and checked the oil pressure regulator and put lock tite on the threads. its not the oil pan because i can see oil running down the side of the bell housing after i wipe it all down and leave the engine running. it has to be the rear main seal or the stationary gear seal. i just want to know if i can get away with this for a few months? as i want to put my money into my TII instead. thanks aaron =)

If you just had a clutch installed, and the mechanic replaced the seal, it is likely that he damaged the new seal upon installation. They need to be very greased up and then tapped in carefully with a large socket or proper seal driver. I'd start by replacing the seal before you assume the leak is actually between the rear stationary and rear iron.
