Rear seats vs. non 2+2....weight?

What would weigh less? having my TII stock in the back or having the 2+2 set up in the back? I honestly wouldn't mind putting the back seats in, I think it looks better. But I'm not about to do it and add wieight.

Any insight on this?

*wasn't really sure what to search for either*

Pretty sure the weight difference is only like 5 pounds (atleast in the factory documentation)
Its not a big difference anyway...

EDIT: sorry, more specifically, the seats were 5 pounds heavier than the bins.

Just get all the brakets with them..... Should go right in.

Also, if they are 5# more then I might see what it takes to remove the metal brace from the back part. Maybe replace it with a fiberglass support. No one is EVER going to use those things so they don't really need to be safe. Yes, a lot of work for a few lbs... but whatever, this pig weighs 2,900lbs right now.

yes i hate them..i already took out the boxes and everything else in the back...now it looks like there is 2 holes...i even bolted a seatbelt to the body so someone can sit there but its still not to comfy..but you could always do that...just take out the boxes and put nothing back in...im selling the rest of it...its rare and you can get some good money for it

Well, I'm always about weight reduction on unusable things. And I really think the 2+2 set up looks more modern. Gives you an actual 'trunk's pace also. Not just an 'area'.... So basically I'd be doing it for two reasons if possible.

What I meant was... If I can make the 2+2 set up as light as or lighter than the bin set up I'll do it.

I also don't want a gutted look. I want a somewhat of a presentable car ya know. I did the back seat removal thing in my other car and everyone always complains. (can't have girls complaining about your car and not liking it now, can you? ) I also managed to drop around 270+lbs off my other car at one point too. Want to do near that on this car.

I was also looking at that black fiberglass(?) thing that shapes the back of the car. Might see if there is a lighter material that can be used.... Maybe a thinner piece of fiberglass.

I have not really dug into weight reduction on these cars too much. I actually have another window open searching old posts on the subject.

I took the back seats, belts, and carpet underpad out of my GXL. Together the stuff weighed 37lbs.
Then I installed bins - I didn't weigh them, but estimate no more than 20 lbs.

I sure wouldn't be using the seat belts if I put the seats in. So depending on what actaully is put in the car it could in fact save weight..... hmmm

By the way... I found some rear seats. They are blue and I really don't want that (grey interior w/ black Corbeau seats). So if you are interested let me know. Think it's going for $100...

I have an extra rear seat. They are not heavy at all.

Anyone wanna buy the seat from me? PM me if so.

It is blue cloth with blue leather trim, just cleaned them and they're in good shape. I also have all mounts, bolts and seat belts.

I'm not sure on a fair price though... I guess offers.

mazda engineers throw a kegger every time they figure out a way to trim 30lbs off of a car.

I'm looking to start a family, and am serisouly considering replacing the bins with seats. They look like they'll fit a car seat and the kid can fit for a couple of more years after that.

It means re-planning my amp and car-puter placement, but oh well.

Does anyone have a good pic of them installed in the car, and what they look like when they're folded down? Thanks!

Here's what I want to do, I'm not sure if anyone else has done it yet.

Do like the Porsche GT3: Get some custom fit carpet made, it will look sexy stock awesome and won't weigh anything.

Arrow

Im planning on removing my rear seats and replacing them wiht bins but leaving cutouts so i can use the bolting points for the rear belts to affix my 4 point harness. That GT3 rear is ******* georgous but unless i saw it imperson i have no idea where to begin attempting that.
