Rear hatch suppose to be automatic??

I saw on the 1985 TOP GEAR that the FC hatch was AUTOMATIC...mine however is not. Is there anyway to fix it?? Or make it back to stock?? I would seriously love it if it was automatic.

get new ones or rebuild your old ones, I think ReTed said something about being able to do that with a kit a few weeks ago.

never heard of a kit to rebuild the hatch struts
mine on the other hand work pretty damn good (knock on wood)

On the strut theres the little label saying that theyre sealed, not sure what kinda gas they use or how you'd rebuild it?

Good suggestion on the WD-40

I'm not sure either on how to rebuild them, also unsure about the strut being gas filled or oil filled. hopefully ReTed will correct me on this

^ yes, they are usually pretty cheap.
just make sure to get them with the same opening/support pressure.Otherwise, your hatch will fly up, or it won't stay up......

gas shocks can be purchased at just about any industrial supply house once you get the measurements and the required pressure. (same thing with the tein hood gas springs)

When I try to open mine after I've had it closed a while it sticks to my body. However, after I pull it loose, it goes right up .

Yeah, it's my own fault. I just thought it might help him, or someone, out.

My hatch struts still work pretty well, hatch pops up about 3" by itself, lifts effortlessly, then closes fraily easy as well, my girlfriends 7 on the other hand you have to pull it up pretty good and it slams closed way to easy. Age and climate effects the struts differently.

hahaha i pop the hatch, then close the doors so the pressure change pops the hatch open an inch or two

Slam your door as you're getting out.

Yea, that does it for me too.

I should really invest in new struts...I'm getting tired of trying to pry it open with my fat fingers...
