CT Rear ends: NA vs TII

I was just curious as to what the differences are between the NA rear end and the TII rear end. Couldn't find a thread having to do with this so sorry if this question has been answered already.

What exactly do you mean by "rear end"? The rear plate of the engine, the rear axle subassembly, the rear axle differential, the rear bumper, etc.?

Also, please ask a specific question such as fitment, style, performance, etc. It would help if you state your reason for the information.

I mean the differential ratios, stub axles and whatever else is different having to do with the power transfer from the driveshaft to the wheels. Reason I'm asking is I'm buying up parts for my TII swap into a NA S5 Vert and I wasn't sure as to whether or not to pickup a rear end. I just want to know the difference and if I can get away with just the NA rearend.

Go to the FAQ page in this forum and click on the link called "Engines (also includes info on swaps, turbos, and the quest for more power)". Your options will be covered in the NA-TII swap links.
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...55#post5131155

The NA drivetrain will work if you keep the TII engine pretty much stock. It will also work with a little more power if you don't rapidly apply torque to the system, such as in a drag race launch.

All of the stock TII differentials are 4.1 ratio LSDs. The S4 uses a clutch type which offers better performance but needs regular rebuilding, and the S5 uses a VLSD which doesn't perform very well and is not rebuildable but lasts much longer.

only difference that matters is the NA's are 7" ring gear, and TII's are 8" ring gear.

bigger = better here...

I did an NA to TII swap and went through the same dillemma. I didnt do the TII transmission, driveshaft or rear end... YET. After much research i feel comfortable with my setup for the next year or 2 so a complete drivetrain is my next big mod before i add any more power mods or suspension.
I would advice on planning to do the full drivetrain eventually, otherwise eventually your gonna need to do it whether you planned on it or not =/

What driveshaft mods have to be done if you keep the NA differential and do a TII swap?

if you keep the NA trans, nothing.

if you have a tII trans, you'll have to get a custom driveshaft made or just buy one from mazdatrix:
