Rear end shudder???

Everytime I come off of a stop, and am turning in either direction, I feel a slight, but very fast shudder. Feels like it's coming from the rear, but I am not positive. Anyone else have problems similar to this?

Lets bump you to the top with this. Maybe its the differential, as in the limited slip. I think that it might be worth looking at your differential fluid and maybe think about draining it and replenishing it. Could be somethig else altogether, but it could be the clutches in the lsd making the noise.

Well, funny you bring that up. I just replaced the rear end fluid with RedLine ShockProof differential fluid about 100 miles ago. I am positive the fluid level is right. Remember, this is only when making turns. Just thought I would add more info. Thanks for the bump!

Ist I'd like to say I know next to nothing about differentials, but dispite that I'll continue. I'm looking at a Mazdatrix catalog, page G-7 and it says this *LIMITED SLIP ADDITIVE* " If this type of additive is not used with the rear end oil, normally you get a *chatter* from the rear axle when starting from a stop, and turning at the same time. This is due to the clutches in the differential locking and un-locking. One container/part number needed per rear end oil change." That was a ad for an additive that they were selling. On rare occasions I have heard a chattering during turns. My mufflers usually drown out things like that. Just thought I'd mention that article. Like I said, could be something different altogether. Maybe someone will step up to the plate and hit a home run. KABUMP.

I'd agree on the LSD assuming you have one. they will chatter while turning sometimes. add some LSD aditve. redline makes one too.

the chatter you are feeling should only come when taking off hard on turns either way, correct?

if that is so, what you are feeling is one wheel trying to spin free because of the lack of pressure on it and the other wheel is stuck to the ground due to the extra weight of the car on it(outside wheel)

so the outside wheel jumps and shakes due to the unequal balance.

this is just a result of having lsd without STIFF springs and anti- sway bars and all that other good stuff.

in short..... because one wheel has a lot of weight on it and the other has practically none. the lsd makes the rear-end shake like a bitch.

hope thiis helps

oh yeah. if you wanna take off hard like that and not shake... take off harder and get sideways

this chatter is coming from turns coming off a dead stop. like 3-7mph, maybe. faster turns, I do not feel it, even though it might still be happening.

yeah that is what i am talking about. from a dead stop is only when it happens. and usually only on 90 degree turns (stopsigns & stoplights)

Has anybody changed the two outer bearings in the diff? My rearend is humming with a bad bearing, and I believe it's in the diff. I'll check the wheel bearings pretty soon, but I was just wondering if I should just upgrade to the entire LSD assembly instead of putting some money into bearings on the non LSD unit?
