Talking Rear End Removal

How do I get the rear end (diff) out of my 1990 N/A without removing the subframe?

LSD comin' soon :-)

Thanks!,

i dont know if thats possible, since the differential is bolted on to the subframe. You have to drop the subframe just to get to those screws :P Its not that hard.

What kind of time is involved in doing this swap? I was planning on taking the LSD from a T2 at the junk yard for $85.

Its more or less common sense stuff. Disconnect the driveshaft. Remove the rear exaust. Lossen the fornt differential mount from the differential. Remove the rear sublink assy, disconnect the halfshafts from the differential, disconnect the rear mounts and the let the l/h subframe down and remove the differential. Its in the free download on the net.

Can't do it. The front diff mount bolts are too hard to reach with the front subframe on tight. I suppose you could drop the drivers side and loosen the passenger side of the subframe to give you the clearance you need, but ****, if you're going to go that far, just drop the whole thing. It's not much more work

Search on the site for subframe, plenty of discussions on this already.

SILKWORM, the front differential mount bolts can be reached. If your removing the differential you just have to remove the TWO nuts that hold the differential to the mount. The mount stays with the subframe. You just don't have much room to move the wrench. Its removing the front mount itself that is the real bear, but on this job, the differential removal, you leave the mount in place. Its there in the manual at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com as referenced above. Been there, done it.

Ah, ok. So you mean the 3 studs holding the mount to the diff. Ok, I can see that. Still, it's not that hard to drop the subframe, and all 3 studs on mine were rusted on hard, I had to use an impact wrench to get those suckers off.

I just remember two nuts holding the differential to the front mount, but I see what you mean. I've only changed out one differential, and I remember it was not such a hard job. Then on the other cars I have had to change out the broken front mount on both. I thought it was going to be an hour job to begin with. Found out changing the mount is a real bear compared to just changing out the differential. The second time I thought about dropping the subframe to do the job because I was having such a b...h getting at the nuts that hold the mount to the subframe. Anyway, I see where you are coming from, and you've got a good point.
