Exclamation Rear End GRINDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK. The sound I hear towards the rear of my car is like loose gears just grinding or being thrown around at random. And it's definitely HEAT DEPENDANT. I mean if it's real hot outside or if I just drive a good 5 miles or so I'll certainly hear it, but at shorter distances I may not. At first I was hasty and I replaced the rear wheel bearings. But soon afterwards the NOISE returned. What do you think it is???? Also, please be descriptive in how to check what it is you think the problem maybe. If it's maybe the pinion bearing; how do I check that? Rear Axle bearing? Again, how do I check that? I'm a novice mechanic. That's about it. Thanks for any help...

you might as well check the dif an tranny fluid... I ran the dif fluid almost bone dry a couple weeks ago b/c of a crack in the case. I fixed it promptly, but you should check!
