Rear end?

My 90 t2 rear end has a whine issue. I believe the ring and pinion gears are bad. I got a 88 t2 rear end to replace it. However my question is the 88 rear end, i heard that its a clutch type and it only lasts the first 30 to 50 thousand miles. Is it true or false.

That's false.

The rear end is known to wear out after time or aggressive driving. But not 30-50K, I hear of people having TII rear ends in the 150K+ range that are just fine. Some people even consider the S4 clutch type LSD to be the most durable. If you're worried about it, tear it apart, rebuild it, and then install it.

Don't listen to everything you hear.
