Rear end

Hello all I own an 88 gxl and was wondering if I have a posi rear end. In other words if I were to do a burn out would both rear tires spin or just one? Just curious In finding out what was standard on this particular model. thanks in advance-------------Ren

88 GXL's

should all have Posi's. But, to check and be sure, jack up the rear of your car and turn one wheel. If they both turn the same direction, you have posi. If they turn in opposite directions, you don't have posi.

Manual GXLs should have a limited slip diff..

However, the clutches do wear out after 40K miles or so.

I don't think this is true for a car that has otherwise just been a John Q. Public daily driver. For the clutch's to wear out, there has to be a fair amount of stress history to them. Driving straight down freeways doesn't provide much stress.

I just pulled a LSD from a manual GXL with 150K on it and its still capable of keeping the tires going at the same time. I haven't realized any accelleration advantages from the swap yet, but thats because my tires suck. Now it fishtails at the thought of over powering a turn and still barks them in the 1-2 shift.
