Rear Diff Question

Is there a difference in the shell of a 89 GTU and a 88T2 rear differential? Reason I ask. I want to put my Custco Diff in but do not want much downtime. So, I was thinking about going to the wrecker and pulling the GTU one, paint and put the Custco diff in it. Can I swap it in? Or do I need a T2 Diff?

I think the T2 was bigger. 7" instead of 6".

shell is different.
you need a T2 diff.

I have no idea if a cusco diff will fit in the n/a casing but my /guess/ would be no.
