rear brakes vented vs solid

ok heres the thing...I have rebuilt some 4piston fronts for my GTU and will be swapping them on soon to replace the single piston fronts. I want to order new pads (probably hawk hps)...but I didn't swap out the rear solid rotor setup for the vented rotor setup that would normally go with a 4 piston front rx7. Is there a difference in the rear brake pads from vented to solid that i have to worry about, or can I just order up a full set of pads that would be for a 4 piston caliper rx7.

related question.
I am also wondering if ther are any caliper clearance issues if I wanted to install a vented rotor in place of my stock solid rotor. ?

The rear vented discs are a half inch bigger that the solid ones.

I haven't tried to fit the vented rotors on non-vented rotor calipers, but I suppose if you had at least 5/16" clearence between the current solid rotor and caliper; and the caliper/piston could be compressed enough to fit a pad (the vented rotors are 10mm thicker) it might fit.

Just for kicks I tried test fitting my old rear calipers for the solid rotors, from my old 4-lug hubs, on my new vented rear rotors, from my new 5-lug hubs. They had nowhere near enough clearance to fit the pads into. I'm not sure if the GTU calipers are different than the base model (mine) calipers, but I wouldn't bet on it. Solid rotor calipers are probably the same on both, and wont fit.

I thought the the rear rotors were bigger on a vented rotor than on a no vented one. Are they??

You need the wider calipers for the vented rear discs. I believe all 86-88 five lug cars had the vented discs.
