S5 t2 rear and axles:

Well I got my turbo vert done and inspected for a whole 2 days before I blew the passenger side axle out. My question is when I let the clutch out the driveshaft spins and the passenger side axle spins, but not the drivers side. its broke near the rear. With the car on the ground one side spins and the other isn't locking up. Is this normal for the t2 rear? When one axle blew the car had no go, I coasted to a stop. Shouldn't it have still locked the driver side axle? Or did I blow the rear and axle? I didn't get a chance to lift up the rear end of the car and spin the drivers side axle to see if the passenger side stub is spinning with it yet.
