rear 5 lug swap question (searched!)

I'm getting ready to finish my rear 5 lug swap. I have a 5 lug rear end thats been disassembled and has questionable bearigs as well as unknown bushings. What I would like to know is if I can push the 4 lug hub off the bearing, and push the 5 lug hub on. I have a month to get the car ready for a track day so I would prefer to use my known working subframe instead of swapping the 5 lug system in and finding out bad bearings, one side dtss messed up, alignment etc etc etc.

So is it possible to press a 5 lug hub onto a 4 lug bearing?

the bearing comes apart when you press it, so not easily.

I guess it wouldnt hurt to replace the bearings while I'm in there...Autozone has Timken bearings for $60 a piece (ouch.)

I think I may go this route. I dont trust the other ones. They need to be popped out anyway to fit new lug studs..

Rock Auto sells Timkens for $27 and SKSs for $40-ish.
You'll also need new seals and axle nuts.

so that is to say the 4 lug bearings are the same? I am doing the 5 lug conversion on mine as well, but I had already purchased brand new everything for my 4 lug in preparation to replace a stripped lug stud....

hate to purchase everything again, but it is what it is I suppose

upon searching I have located 2 Timken bearings locally to me. I dont have a problem putting them in if they come apart. I'm sure a new set of bearings would be beneficial. They have 100k miles and are 25 years old.

edit: i'm going to order through rockauto. Clokker, what seals do I need? and the big axle nut is one time use???

Pay close attention to the FSM on how to press the new bearings into the knuckle and the hub into the bearing or you will be doing it again in a few weeks.

I have redone rear bearings for people that where done by "reputable shops" because they pressed them together wrong.

This is my order for bearings/seals from Rock Auto:

The axle nut is staked after tightening, so yes, it's one time use.
I got mine from Mazdatrix, @$9 apiece.

Mine came in $3 cheaper with a 5% discount code I found. That is exactly what I ordered.

I will go and find the axle nuts now. and now I remember. The tab gets hammered to lock them in.

Thanks clokker!
