really dumb question
really dumb question
ok, i know this is gonna sound stupid, but i have only had my 7 for about 3 weeks..... wtf is an s4 and s5??? i am trying to follow along and get as much info as possible, but have never seen any say anything about the difference. I was guessing , and s4 was the earlier or the 2nd gens and the s5 being the later, is that close?
S4 and S5 refer to the series. I believe series four ran from 86-88 and series 5 from 89-91.
main diffrence is they changed some things in the engine for S5 upped the horsepower I think diffrent intake etc don't know the details, also minor extirior cosmetics like color matched moulding and diffrent tailights. That's off the top of my head so.....

THANK YOU
thanks for asking...I've been driving REX's for twenty years (fourteen years 1st generation and the balance 88's) and I did not know the friggin difference either...thanks again....
its only a "dumb question" because its covered in the "FAQ for the FC" Sticky at the top.

yeah, pushing one of those hoses into a bucket of water to steam clean the engine, i need to know which hose, a pic would be great cause i have never worked on a rotary engine, cept for the last 3 weeks and it been all general stuff, oil, plugs, air filter
are you talking about the engine bay or inside the engine? there's a way to "de-carbon" the inside by using the ATF trick. i believe they do it to piston engines, too. you can search for a detailed explanation of how. i really dont know specifics, so i dont wanna make you hurt your engine. i trust this more than any water trick.
i still dont know what initials you said you needed help with.
ATF is Automatic Transmission Fluid. do a search for a write-up. it ideally helps to clear up some of that carbon that is in our beautiful engines.

what am i atalking about is the thing where you stick a vacuum tube into water to steam the inside of the engine,,, gotta rev it to like 5 g's to keep it running, i just need to know which hose , a picture of it, i have an 86 FC NA with no mods, i thought using the atf thing " could " be damaging so i totally left that outta my searches, if it's safe ... refresh me
My advice don't use ATF, it fouls plugs and is bad for internal seals, although it may breakdown carbon well it's not worth the risk IMO, You can use almost any upper vacuum hose, just make sure it will feed both rotors, (just follow the runnes make sure it will lead to both), there are three i think in the front right after the throttle bodie that will work, BUT, I highly recomend Amsoil Power Foam, it is make to clean engine internals buy spraying a cleaning foam in the intake, and it works I promise its only 5 bucks try it! Searh for amsoild website on google or something and check it out for your self, but if you insist the water wil work, not as well tho IMO
PS - I reccomend cleaning or replacing your plugs after doing any of these things as well as an oil change
