Well if it's a '90 GTUs, the 'K' should be scratched out and an 'L' next to it.

As far as it being an '89 GTUs, I'm not sure how you would tell other than looking for the trim differences like the 4.30 rear end.

 

The VIN does not identify the model other than a Coupe w/auto shoulder belt, Coupe Turbo w/auto shoulder belt, Coupe w/o auto shoulder belt, Coupe turbo w/o auto shoulder belt, Convertible w/o airbag, and Convertible w/ airbag

 

You have a GTUs if your hood is aluminum, you have manual windows, 16" wheels, 4.30 vlsd, no rear wiper, no sunroof, 4 piston brakes, blah blah, probably more crap I forgot about.

I have no idea what i have can anyone help me, It is an RHD and is registered as a 1990 but had the old style tail lights on it and required some modification to put the kouki style lights on. It has the S5 engine in it, 4 piston front brakes, LSD, power windows, rear wiper, no sunroof, GT-X and Savanna decals on it (which probably don't mean ****), It's stock color is blaze red, had the 9 point?? sawblade rims on it, and the registered vin is only 10 digits so i can't even look it up. I'm hooped!! Any advice on how to figure out what this animal is let me know. This is my first rx-7 and i bought it because i absolutely loved it but had no clue about them at all, and am now finding out all of this stuff that doesn't add up.
