Yo SaabGuy, I already found the franchise of RadioShack here in Greece (they are brand new, not more than 2-3 weeks ), and went there yesterday, but they didnt import any of the 900- series. I bought the corresponding 276- series components, but I think I may have to improvise a bit.

I'll try to make my FCD into a nice box at the same time, so I'll have two things done simultaneously...

doesn't look too horribly difficult, just that when you yank off an oxygen sensor from an old Fuel Injected car, you don't know how good it is.. they aren't exactly made to be super-accurate, I'd think you'd be better off building the actual gauge, then getting yourself a really good oxygen sensor.

 

I'm too lazy.&nbsp I build one a loooong time ago, but killed it when the wires crossed.

I just recommend to buy the Cyberdyne/Intellitronix/Nordskog ones from Summit Racing or Jegs for $30.&nbsp 2" guage and it looks pretty at night.

Hey, I just bought two digital voltmeters with nice displays, which were also adjustable, set them up so they measure 5V (with 3 decimals) and directly connect them to the Water and Intake temp sensors, and +12V of course.

I havent done the actual installation yet, cause I'm too lazy

 

I like the DIY a/f guage because you can custom fit it or custom build a case to mount it anywhere you like. You aren't stuck mounting a 2" round guage on the pillar. You can also add a potentiometer to make a "dimmer" and a second one to fine tune the a/f meter when you know you are running stoich. For this you'll need to have a shop test your exhaust to KNOW when you are stoichiometric. Adjust the a/f guage to read half lit and you are set. I've also seen people use 20 LEDs instead of 10 with 2 IC's but I don't see the point. The guage is going to be as accurate as the above mentioned companies, all of which are only as accurate as your o2 sensor.

I got mine made for free from an electrical techie friend of mine. He had all the parts at work and built it in his spare time. I'm going to throw the FCD at him next.

That's the one I bought and built. Cost ~NZ$15 and took about half an hour to solder together. It works great.

 

blimey - this forum is a wealth of info for me ( as im in the uk ! )

so you can build this will all normal parts from radioshack - or maplins ( UK ! )

do you need the O2 sensor or is it on the car already ?

as you can tell i have no idea about the internal workings of the rx and/or its wiring

can someone give me an idiots guide ie

1 - build thing
2 - solder wire x to ....
3 - see what happens

You will be able to get all parts from Radio Shack, but some of the parts have to be special ordered.

 

I am the cynic.

It looks great, is dirt simple, and dirt cheap. But a display is only as good as it's information.

A stock sensor gives poor info outside of 14.7:1. Not what you need when you tune. Tuning your car based on that, autometer, cyberdyne (sp), haltuner, voltmeter....the list goes on. Is a bad idea.
