Unhappy Engines Apart, Not A Pretty Sight!

Finally tore down my 90 N/A's engine...

Well, looks like my front rotor lost a apex seal and took out a few chunks of the rotor and rotor housing. Questions:

-Can I use a rotor housing from a S4 N/A or are they different?

-What are my options for buying a rotor and rotor housing? New/Used etc?

-Where to order gaskets and other parts to reassemble?

-Can a machine shop fix the housing?

Arrrg, well at least it's apart, and I touched my first rotor

Everything else looks good.

due to the clearance with the rotor and compression, you cant resurface the housing

Buying a used housing will render longer break in time, overall less compression.

Gaskets and such can be boughten from mazdatrix/atkins/pineapple racing i believe just to name a few.

s4 N/A rotor housing has a slightly different spark plug location, so you really ought to get an s5 housing. There are plenty of shops or private people selling engine parts. You can easily find a used one in great shape for less than $150.

s4 and s5 housings cannot be used together, because the sparkplug holes are not the same. If you ever get the chance to look at two next to each other, see how the plug holes do not have the same distance between them. That would completely screw up the timing.

Ok guys, I'll check out the forsale section, maybe get lucky and find a used rotor and housing. I'm only doing it to sell it but I also don't want to do a cheap job.

how much compression can you get from a used housing? Like 90% of brand new? More? Less?

I think I"m going to go with rotaryaviations basic overhaul kit. Are corner seals, side seals, and rotor oil seals reusable?

Sometimes, remember side seals are reaponsible for 50% of your compression
