RE: snapped fuel door cable?

So basically as the title states, the lever for the fuel door hasn't been working well until recently its completely stopped. So I traced the wiring and I can see its pulling the cable but on the gas door end, its barely moving. If I feel it, I can feel the cable moving inside the sheeve close to the lever but about halfway through, the feeling dies out entirely which is making me think that somehow the cable snapped within the sheeve? Is this possible or a "normal" occurance? Any other experiences? Thanks.

Yes, it's pretty common.

Open the fuel cap. Take the jam nut off. Go inside the hatch now and get under that side carpet and remove the mechanism and take a good look at it to see what is broken/NOT broken.
