re: shift ****
i bought a new padding to put under my shifter since the old one was rotted to muffle the sounds and rid the car of the fumes the tranny produces when the padding was originally there. however, i need to take off the shiftknob in doing so, and i haven't the slightest clue in how to do that. can u help me out? i looked through the FAQ section but i couldn't find it/

The removal proceedures are in the factory service manual, which can be found in the FAQ.
Basically you grip the collar below the **** with an adjustable wrench and then screw the **** off with your hand. If it's tight, use a strap wrench.
