whats the problem in these pics?

all of those side seal clearances are within spec...

 

anyone have any ideas on how to test the cooling sysrem i wann make shure there are no leaks

 

when you have the engine back together, get some spare heater hose and radiator hose and find something to plug the ends with. block off all the coolant ports and rent a cooling system pressure tester and fill the system with straight water and pump it up to 13lbs with the spark plugs removed and inspect for pressure drops/leaks.

as i recall the specs for the side seal clearance is .02"- .016".

Some people actually reccomend a higher clearance for turbo motors...

Sorry to hear of your bad luck.. I too have had bad luck with cars recently. Almost makes me want to give up and get something reliable.

well you are posting your specs in inches while measuring in millimeters, are you sure you are reading things correctly?

read things in 1 spec, i suggest using millimeters, it is what i use.

spec is .05-.15mm side seal to corner seal gap.


i do not believe this is your problem area.

since i have no clue what the original problem is i can't guess as to where to look.

 

This is why I have a Miata as a daily driver, so I can take the 7 off the road to properly work/experiment on it when necissary.

the original post specs are listed in inches and the measured gaps he got sounded suspiciously like metric.

 

Karak: his feeler gauges show both, so I think he's just randomly mixing the two, who knows.

 

no, the number stated orininally is just how big the gap really was.. it waz one huge gap

yeah man, dont worry about it... i think you've had about every problem possible with a rebuild by now, so this build should have all the bases covered. i actually used the wrong RTV for my first rebuild and it had oil seeps all over the damn place...

and damn, you weren't kiddin about that blow-by. that rear rotor looks sickening at the corners.

come to think of it, i reused my sideseals and didnt check the tolerances, but they were DAMN close to touching the corners and moved freely so i didnt bother measuring them.

 

it runs again!!!

 

Well i turned the key, and it wouldent start, then realized i had the fuel pump unpluged pluged it in and she fired rite up.. ill check compression later

 

For how long, is the question!

 

Ok you rock . . . .plain and simple man, already back in and running, there's got to be some sort of record for that. I wanna start tearing these things apart too

 

Ok, seriously.... how is that a record? Record for most times having to come out and back in perhaps, but anybody with basic knowledge can pull an engine, tear it down, reassemble, and have it running again within a day if they have all the parts laying around. The problem with this whole thing, is that everybody keeps idolizing what he's done as if it's some magicaly impossible thing to do, and so he gets encouraged, and does it again, and does something else wrong. Yeah, it's good to not give up and etc, but time and time again he runs into troubles by not checking things. You peopel should be yelling at him so he gets it right!
