Question Re-balancing a USED driveshaft.

Hey all,

My driveshaft is vibrating the crap out of my car at the moment and I am betting both Universal Joints have lost it. I recently bought a USED drive shaft from another forum member from Texas and went to pick it up along with a bunch of other stuff. Anyhow I forgot to ask him to score the DS or mark off which bolts went where. From what I can gather the bolts/nuts are used as the weights to correctly balance it. It is possible for me to find a way to balance it? I would rather not like taking it to a Drive Shaft shot since I frankly don't trust anybody but myself and my friends to work on the car.

If anyone has any info on doing this I would appreciate it. Thanks

Santiago

Install the used shaft and if a vibration is noticed, turn it 90 degrees.

So the nuts/bolts don't matter? Clock wise or anti-clockwise?

Either way, just to eliminate the vibration...If any. As long as no weights of any kind under the bolts, just replace nuts/bolts. I've seen some place pieces of metal under the bolts to compensate for out of balance, as well as hose clamps around driveshaft to achieve the same. Never encountered a problem with a shaft, but always a first time.

My drive shaft never had any weights on the drive shaft though I had seen that in some repair manuals. It is likely that the orientation and bolts will not matter.

I just had a new driveshaft installed and now my car is
much, much quieter. I had a noise like the traansmission
was low on oil. But now the car is super quiet. I can hear the
flutter of the exhaust now if I have the radio off.
