RB vs N1 - Pics

There's been some posts concerning which exhaust system would be best for their cars.. in my opinion most of the aftermarket systems all flow about the same, which leaves looks and sound as the major factors ..
Here are a few pics we snapped this afternoon; my !0ae with RB exhaust, rx7_turbo2's new N1 setup and in the background you can see maxthe7man's T2 with full 2.5" exhaust

Thumbs up

they both look great

even though it's not as tacky when you have both exhaust holes filled. i rather go with a single

maybe a hiper or n1 or gt spec

2.5" dual

I have 2.5 dual on mine. Is that stock or aftermarket? It was on there when I bought it. Tomorrow, hopefully I'll have my down pipe and racing pipe for the cat. How will that sound on a TII?

That's a pic of the area behind my garage. Seeing the N1 for the first time ( I have an RB system) I have to say the it is so large it is shocking. For some reason the pics really don't showing how unbelieveably large the N1 is. From the pics they look big but not overly so. In real life they are HUGE and stand out like you would not believe. They sound good too. I think they give the car a deeper exhaust note than the RB. When the g-man when by me under throttle it wasn't overly loud.

I have seen an N1 dual in person now. It really does dominate the rear of a stock looking 7; partially because it looks so good you stare at it and also because it doesn't fit in w/ the subtle look of the rest of the 2nd gen. Subtle boxed fenders (not wild like the 944) subtle curves w/ very slight subtle straight lines dividing them and a huge not subtle pair of cannons in the back! I still like it...

Yo,

Those N1's are out of control!! I'd call 'em grapefruit shooters, but I don't think you could find a grapefruit big enough to fit!! *grin* I guess cantaloupe shooters would be more appropriate...

I'll take the subdued look of the RB exhaust. I've got the HKS 50mm system and it almost looks stock. I like that aspect because cops are going to look at your car a lot harder if they see massive stainless howitzers pointing out the back. Just imagine if those two RX's were getting on it and a cop heard 'em. Who do you think he's gonna pull over? Just my 2 cents.

BTW, did the guy with the RB put any kind of reflective heat tape on his rear valance cut outs? I'd be worried about melting the plastic with his tips so close to the cut outs. Just a heads up.

I love the look of my racing beat, my friend has the HKS and it looks close. both look stock which I like. the N1 and the greddy just look way to big. half of that is because the mufflers are shiny silver not black.

I have been waiting for someone to post pics like this for a while. I think I might go with the rb system. The n-1 looks way too big. I just wish that I could see and hear them in person.

Thanks!!!!!

Hahaha Thanks Chris. As the owner of the N1 I can say A) They are friggin huge. B) They draw a ton of attention, I have had countless riced up civic's, and rusted out Mustang revving at me at the lights.

The exhuast note is nice and deep, and almost mellow, and while cruising the volume of the exhuast gets louder but the note remains fairly deep. It is loud however, you really notice it when going under a bridge, or if there is a wall beside you or something. It was the system I wanted and I am happy with it (despite comments by some....Max j/k:p I am still considering the sawzall fix) I am also running the RB downpipe and presilencer so the volume is increased with that setup. I suspect the RB full system flows a little better but with a couple guys in our group already running it I thought I would try something different. If you dont mind the flashyness, and the volume I would reccomend the system.

What HKS system are you guys talking about? I have the Hiper and it is huge. When I took it out of the box I was amazed. The power gain and tone make up for the size, but I kinda wish I would have gone with the RB. I prob. will in a year or so.

Yo,

You can see the HKS 50mm system here:

http://www.mazdatrix.com/e86-92.htm

It's not the greatest picture. Basically they are like 3" round non-slash tips that don't stick past the rear valence. Very stock looking, and a very mellow exhaust tone. Even with no cats for 2 years now, and countless backfires, the mufflers haven't gotten any louder. I think HKS has discountinued it or something, very hard to get these days.

RX_7Turbo2- I'm glad you like your system, I was just givin' ya little sh*t about how big it is. Different strokes for different folks. That's funny that more people want to race you with that system on. It reminds me of then I put my powdercoated white rims on my red RX-7. It went from a wannabe 944 to a JDM Pimp Daddy and now I get it lots more races. *grin*

BTW, That's cool all you guys get together! Post some videos of your antics, 'cause I know you can't get 3 FC's together without some serious mayhem. *grin*

No worry's about the light hearted ribbing, the exhuast looks like I had two paint cans chromed and welded to my car, I'm the first to admit it. If you could see the rest of ricey rice mods you would know why Maxthe7man has dubbed me "Uncle Ben" I have this thing for blue accents, alright I'm revealing too much:p

There is about 5 or 6 of us FC's that get together, we often take pics but have yet to take any vids.

I've got Xentrix's Greddy Power Extreme! It sounds great. cost way too much! I'd buy one in a minute if I had $900 something for it.

I was actually quite surprised as to the sound of the N1's .. from listening to alot of soundclips on the net, I was prepared to hear some obnoxiously loud lawnmower like motor.. however in person, the sound was quite satifyingly mellow at idle.. and it wasn't too bad at full throttle either.. definitly a sound of power, unlike honda exhausts which just sound like someone giving you the razberry.. I can't attest to the soundlevels in the car, but I'm sure they are liveable..

As for our group, there are usually about 6 of us who meet everyweek and work out kinks in our cars, shoot the **** and take a cruise.. 4 of us are turbo's and the other's are NA's .. Now that I've got my digital camera back I'm sure to take a few more pics of our meets.. unfortunately the best pic opportunities usually come along at 180km's where picture taking just isn't possible .. I think the most memorable moment I've had so far was this sunday.. imagine a 5 lane road with 5 FC's taking the lanes.. I missed my shift into 3rd (Went into 5th.. time for new bushings) and instantly dropped back to see the guys all pull away ahead of me..It was an awe inspiring site for me.. it looked kinda like a buncha jet's in formation breaking away ... wish I had my camera ready at that moment...

By The way.. I found a great way to make a T2 real slow... just take a cruise with a bunch of other t2 owners with similar mods
suddenly you are no longer the leader of the pack..
