RB header Installation

RB header Installation

Alright, I decided its time for me to get off my lazy *** and install this header thats been sitting in my room for the past 2 weeks.
Can someone give me directions to ensure I dont screw up too bad, or if they are published somewhere--direct me?

jack up the car and look. it's 6 nuts off then on... worst case scenario you snap a stud. So spray them down with PB blaster.

You have two options to get to the top bolts on the manifold.

1) Pull the actuators for the Aux ports. This is unnecessary

2) Look at the underside of the manifold and see where the bolts are. Notice that the bolts are positioned between two humps on the manifold , one on either side of the bolt head. Its the same way on the top of the manifold. Use that to give you a rough idea where the bolts are at. A 6" extension and some patience will get you on to those bolts and get them off.


After that you will find an RB header install is the easiest header install in the history of automotive modification.

dont forget to get new wire to extend your O2 sensor or O2 sensor harness. Unless you got an extension from RB

use pb blaster on all the bolts. Let it soak in that for a few hours. if you find it easier to take off the auxilary port actuators (I did), then do it. That's 4 nuts and possibly $2 gaskets from mazdatrix (or RTV will work). If all else fails use a propane torch to heat up anything seized, provided that you use it safely.

awesome, thanks.(snapped a stud when doing manifold-back exhaust last month) Pretty much like other headers-- couple more questions though.
For the block to header, can I just use a normal rubber gasket? or do I have to go order one from RB. same with the bolts to it. I bought the header used and it didnt come with any hardware.

Rubber won't do much good on an exhaust. I used a stock manifold gasket. However you get it done the power gain and sound from that header are sweet.
