Rattle in Convertible Dash

Does anyone else have a rattle in the dash of your convertible? Mine sounds like it is coming from behind the glovebox. It sounds like some kind of arm end is loose and bouncing (plastic slapping plastic) when I go over a bump.

I have removed the glovebox and can find nothing loose enough to make noise when I bang around in there. It is only when the car is moving over a bumpy road that I hear it.

Anyone else have this problem?

If it was your AFM door flapping about, your car would start bucking horribly on any slightly bumpy road.

It's probably cowl-shake, or a piece of the car's defrost vent has fallen into the HVAC system.

no not the AFM LOL
i mean the recirculating air inlet into the air con (a/r is a mistype sorry), it is behind the glox box right in the top corner.
there is foam on the edges of it to stop the noise from rubbing and hitting stuff, the foam starts falling apart with age... same deal with the wiring plugs too

Rattle behind glove box

I have bought a 88 RX7 convertable with the same problem. I have noticed with the top up that it does not make as much noise. Have you found out what it is. I sure wiould like to fix it.

Had a similar problem on my '88 vert. Don't know if it is the same a yours. Check the lower front portion of the dash under the glove box between the speaker grill and the A/C diffuser. There is a metal fastening tab that taps a metal support bracket behind it when the dash flexs. On mine it seemed like there was a screw missing and replacing the screw solved the problem.
