You should hear it prime and turn on if you turn the key to on and stay on while cranking. If it's not, your fuel pump might not be wired correctly.

With the stock wiring, the fuel pump does not prime. It only turns on during cranking or when it gets a signal from the AFM/fuel pump check connector with the key 'on'.

The power source for the pump should not lose voltage during cranking. If it does, it is wired incorrectly.

The noise you hear from the back is probably the radio antenna motor. It will start/stop according to the behavior you described.

thank you. i dont have an antenna on the car. nor a radio. i know its the pump turning on and off when i crank. for example: i stick key in. turn key to on position i can hear the pump. when i proceed to start position it truns off. and when i stop cranking i can hear the fuel pump start again.
