Ram air idea....Will the stock air box melt if........

O.K. For all you die hard no air pump super charger trial guys. That project has been suspended until I can get another pump. Here goes my next idea. If you were to place a cut down version of the stock air box in top of the intake manifold and what not to suck air from the tmic position drawing air from a TII hood. Would the plastic box melt or would I have to build a metal one. I am thinking of trying a ram air set up from this position on the car. Tell me what you think.

That location is typically a low pressure location, and not suitable for a ram air input location.

plus although I doubt the airbox would melt, but it would get hot...and of course heat any air going through it.

You want to keep the air as cool as possible for as long as possible. That is one reason for the throttle body mod in warmer climates... to keep the intake cooler for longer.

Maybe this will help, for pressure locations:

not worth the trouble, find a way to extend things into the grille and you might be better off

Aside from the grill, looks like the best spot is right about where a rear spoiler would go.

Don't forget that you'll have to rig up the AFM as well. Really, it's not worth the trouble.

Airfilter, AFM, and TB all ontop of the manifold.........not possible/woth the effort. Spend the time saved working to earn $ to buy previously proven mods.

Do you think that diagram is actually correct? I dont think it is. And at what speed was it taken into consideration for that pic. I say go for it. Or someone show actual proof of the airflow. Just like everyone told me putting the t2 hood on my car would make it run warmer. It did just the opposite.

Why would anyone think that a T2 hood would make the car run warmer???

That diagram is entirly correct. And speed would have little to no influence over it. Its a diagram of negitive and positive airflow over the body regardless of speed.

Its not a drag coefficent diagram, which would be affected by speed (well above 40-45 mph at any rate).

Note also with the low profile sport spoiler, that the rear lift, is actually almost straight out rather than raised as in the diagram posted.

I used to have a t2 hood on my 89 NA. YOu could look through the scoop and see the upper intake/VDI sticking right at it...there would be less than 1 incho of room to make your funnel, and I never saw how it might be possible.

the idea is not possible. Perhaps you should look into running your A/C into a CAB lol.
