Ah man, I was just teasing a little, but with a little truth as well.

In all honesty if you are having issues driving in the rain, you need to fix either bad tires/suspension or loose nut behind wheel.

One of those two things will cause a problem when driving a FC in poor weather conditions.

Its too bad that in most cases people learn how to drive with FWD cars that require very little skill to get out of bad driving situations.

But FWD is truely perfect for those type of people and why I never recommend a FC or FD for anyone with under 5 years of driving experience.

So half teasing, half serious

I think that anyone should learn to drive a rwd car first because, of exactly what icemark said about the little amount of skill it takes to drive one. How many times have you heard, or seen a person that is used to front wheel drive get on it in a corner and **** them selfs when the rear comes around?

I just talked to a owner of a local rice shop, and he told me about when he first got his 300zxtt he poped the clutch while going around a turn "because I thought it would light up the tires like my old civic did" "about 1/2 second I was in some guys lawn" then he talked about how in the rain he got on it and the car went into a huge power slide, because, again "I thought it was just guna, spin the tires"

on the other hand a person coming from a rwd car going into a fwd car will not get them selfs into these situations.

it was a mistake.. everyone makes mistakes.. I have lost it in my car too

its hard to drive in the rain with any rear wheel drive car/truck, sometimes the road is slick and you end up sideways

i learned to drive on all rwd cars and such, in fact i dont remember my family ever owning a fwd car. when i drove a friends accord around a couple summers ago it seemed like someone put training wheels on the car or something . fwd cars are like cheating :P

I was driving in 2 Foot deep roadways of water on my way to work today. My N/A started to float it was F-in Nuts ... those cars do very well in DEEP water.. I am thinking next time I might just drive down a boat ramp and see how long it floats. The back end was all over the place and I had to the keep the RPM's way up to stop water from going back into my tailpipes.

I was going in puddles I saw SUV's going aroun d... &'s are off road water beasts!

Here is what it looked like when i left my house this morning ... this is the crazy **** I was driving in

Note there should be a big sidewalk there

my T2 + rain = lots of fun. the rain is where i really start to have fun. im always just hangin the *** out all over the place, just about every corner i take. but ive been doing it so long i can control it fairly well. sliding in the rain is like second nature to me. im very comfortable with the car a lil crooked.

btw-just being picky here, but you werent "drifting".alot of people are confusing *any* slide with a drift. your car didnt "drift out" it just slid. no offense, im just nit-picking.

Hey RX7boi,

Good job on getting your 0-60 time under seven sec.

How did you do your brake duct COI? I am planning on doing that to my 87 once I get this RB header / presilencer in

I had some drift practice coming home from work yesterday, and it rains A LOT in Oregon!

I totally agree you need to take the time and mess around to learn how to drive in the rain/snow. There has been numerous occasions when we were doing that in empty parking lots (with security near by..) and hear sirens. Drove by like 2 min later and a cop was sitting in the parking lot. I dont get what their problem is

your right 5 point, rain is fun. Just the other day I was pulling into school in the morning and I gave it a little gas. The next thing i knew was that I had just pulled a 360. Never before have I done this, of coarse it was raining and i always get a little wild on the turns but wow. A 360. I so happy.

rain is rain. Your FC is an FC. The two are seperate issues. I just spent the day doing 80+ mph up a fairly windy mtn highway. Be smooth, be cool, pick your line well in advance, and most importantly: be smart. A steady hand and foot will get you where you want to go as long as you know where that is. Also, slap your stock rims and all season tires on during your rainy season. Smaller contact patch = more pressure to the tread, = less water under the tread. In slick conditions, narrower is better.

Don't blame the car design for it being treacherous in the rain. The RX is just as stable as most other cars. Look for suspension problems. On my TurboII, which tried to kill me in the rain, it turned out to be the right rear lateral link that was installed WRONG. The squid who owned it prior to me thought it a good idea to grease the tapered ball joint on each end of the lateral link, and then to top off his improvement to the original design, install a bastard nut on the end of the joint. Hes destined to flip burgers the rest of his life if thats the best he could do.

So either fully examine the suspension yourself, or take it to an alignment shop(I said an alignment shop, I did not say Firestone), take it to an alingment shop that does only alingments, and have them do an examination of the cars suspension.

Yeah, its a given that bald tires are dangerous in the rain. Goes without saying.

Funny how you said it so much nicer than me!

But I still stick to my guns: Check suspension, learn to drive a RWD car. The FC is one of the better RWD cars out there in the rain if you know how to drive and have maintained the car correctly.

You need to learn how to correct an oversteer. Although your descrition is sketchy, I think you did it right half right.

If you car starts to oversteer or the rear end starts to skid to the outside of your turn, you need to come off the gas and steer in to the skid. This is what they teach you in driver ed in high school. What they don't teach you is, as soon as the skid is coming under control, you have to start turning back the steering wheel back to neutral. If you do this later of if you don't do this you will start skidding in the other direction(This is how you "fishtail" on purpose, BTW).

Tires do make a difference tremendously in the rain. The best tires for the rain are ones with deep grroves for the rain to channel away. also narrow tires are much better than wider in the rain.
