i almost ran into a parked van taking a turn tonight, and the scary part is that i wasnt even going that fast, my car was drifting out, so me not having any drifting experience oversteered the opposite direction which straightend it out a little but once again i over steered the opposite direction, at the end i ended up facing the wrong direction doing a 180...from now on, im not going anywhere near over 40 in the rain!!, although it is kinda fun and i was messing around afterwards on the way home in an open road at 1 in the morning, so it was safe ...

WTF? damn! I thought Fc's were better in the rain than that. O well, it's California we don't get a hell of a lot of rain.
U should see my friends Rustang. Now thats a car that can't handle rain/water. if it hits any water that is 1/2 inch deep, he looses control if the water covers the entire tire!

oh and another thing, after the inident in the begining i was just cruising at no more than 40, and i went across a railroad track, one of those ones thats all metal in the middle of the road, and the tires totally started spinning for a brief moment and then got back on the pavement and stopped.....errr....drive slow in the rain guys!!! VERY SLOW!!!

I agree, just ask rotorbrain, i think that i scared him, and now he wont ride with me anymore, We were going down hill on this small twisty rd, that i drive on all the time, and i had the car completly sideways thru the turns and all four wheels locked up to get it there, and on the strait parts accelerated, it kicked so much ***, i just love going around turns in the rain and giving it gas just to get alittle cheap drift out of it.

There is a corner in an industrial estate near where I live that is signposted 40KM/H.
Of course, because I drive an rx-7 this is usually no problem at 80 k's

The other day it had just started raining (so possibly diesel contributed) and I was just tootling round half asleep having a cruisy drive in the daytime, I was doing just under 40km/h and my car just started to slip out almost 180 degrees into oncoming traffic. Having spent a bit of time with my car sideways instinct took over and with a bit of throttle, a touch of break and gently stirring for 0.0006 seconds I managed to bring her back under control.

The face of the oncoming bommadore driver and my free adrenaline rush (read as: **** ur pants and turn ghost white rush) made it almost worth the scare.

This is the second time my car has just decided to take it's back end for a stroll in the wet doing quite sensible speeds, you really do have to baby FC's in the wet unless you are specifically out for drifting fun.

tires are you're friend. get good ones. mine suck and i almost spun out following a metro through an intersection in the rain. also paint and metal will be slicker in the rain then the concrete.

Add 400 hp to the mix and things get difficult quick. I lost it as I started to climb a steep hill going to work. Just shifted to third, as soon a boost came on, the back end was gone. This was at less than 50mph. Now its a 5k body and suspension repair job. Yes, tires do make a difference but this was maybe a 40 degree day a in a downpour. Performance tire traction falls of dramatically as they get cold. Under 32 degrees and they get very hard. Add rain, light switch boost, and tail happy chassis tuning and....

Yes sir rain is not my favorite thing when i dont want to play around but thats like 5 percent of the time the rest of the time my tail tries to catch up with my headlights

Yeah, I've had issues with my TurboII in the rain sometimes, mostly because my rear tires SUCK (read: almost no tread left).

When I was in the rain and driving on the highway, I'd get stuck in the "ruts" that are on Michigan (read: CRAPPY!!!!!!) roads, and the car would like shake and the rear end would jiggle a little bit, felt like it was just going to go out of control off the side of the road.

The problem is, the tires suck, AND both rear wheel bearings are SHOT, and the front driver side one was loose, so we tighetened that one up, and are just waiting to replace the whole rear system, rotors, hopefully don't need to replace the hubs. AND the reason this happened I think, is the crappy goodyears the previous owner put on the car seem to have broken a belt, and they are like bald on one half of the tire, turn it around and there's like 5/32nds left.. it's pathetic.

Rain and FC's mix fine if you have respect for both of them. Tires help too if you have some Pirelli P Zero's they might be the ultimate road tire...but NOT the ultimate WET tire. That's something you should think about when selecting tires (I wonder how those poeple who bought the Nitto 550R's or whatever they are, think now???). And remember as with everything practice makes perfect (not that I'm telling you to go out and do a little drifting in the rain in your rx7 because that's just dangerous...well that depends on how open the area is don't do anything foolish because you wanna "learn how to drive fast in the rain" I'm sure that after hearing about the recent accident you'll learn this is NOT a game and no matter how many quarters you have you can't restart).

Yeah I'd look into getting some Potenza S03 Pole Positions.. they're rated the best Max Performance tire on tirerack, and I'm guessing they're similar to my Potenza RE950's I've got on my Civic, which work really well in the wet.

any high hp rwd car is going to have problems in rain or snow.. mud etc... think about how little of your tread is trying to touch the ground? it has water between the road and the tread so.. even less traction then you already had.

I was having fun in the rain a little bit.. you just have to drive slow but i was going down by my school boosted and my rear end got a little squaly.. its fun but can be scary if you dont know how to regain traction....

looks like its time for some new tires! If your sliding around that much, its a good chance that your tires are A) have no tred left. or B) have dried out. which happens when they get to old. that makes them hard and they silde really ez.

well, i have no problems on the dry road really, just when its raining....but then its not THAT big of a problem i just dont know exactly what my car is capable of yet....so, soon enough ill get the hang of it, after all, el nino is here!! only thing i dont like about the rain and drifting is that your vision isnt as good as a sunny day, with the water all over your windshield and whatnot....

it is due mainly to heat cycling. unlike race tires, however, street tires have a lot more cycles until they start to harden. usually by the time your tread gets that low, they've been heat cycled too much. that is mainly my tires problem. one tire company helps counter this be putting a softer rubber inside the outer layer so that as you wear down to the replacement ribs, the softer rubber will help you keep good traction until you get off your *** to buy a new set. which i could use as there is no f'ing way i should almost loop the car following a geo metro through a wet intersection. oh well, i need better snow tread for this winter anyway.

Perhaps a FWD economy car pretending to be sporty (like a celica, integra or civic) would be a better choice until you have more experience???
