Thumbs up A radical twist on the ATF trick! MORE=BETTER (if done right)

I had 200,000 miles of carbon, so bad that the intake and rotors were coated in about 1/16th inch of the stuff!

ACK!

I AM NOT RIPPING THIS THING APART.

But at the same time, I dont want it in there!!!

I figger about two weeks of soaking should do it...

FILL'ER UP!

3 quarts later.....

In two weeks ill pump the excess ATF out of the engine with a pump, remove the plugs, and exhaust downpipe.

Then ill put a tray under the car and rotate the engine to get the rest out.

Hopefully this will unfreeze my FROZEN CLOSED 6 ports too!

Then ill re-assemble, wait for everyone to go inside and POOF!

make the neighboring houses dissapear for about 5 minutes.

I LOVE THIS LIQUID!

-Always tinkering......

You will never get that car started dude.

But then, the ones who say it can't be done are always being interrupted by someone who just did it.

Nice clean engine. Keep us updated!

!)! Hope you have lotsa spark plugs to replace all the ones you're gonna foul!

I now consider this a challenge before all mankind!!

Why would the car NOT start?
I'm gonna drain it.
I'm even gonna rinse the intake down with carb cleaner...

And I have TWO sets of plugs from doing this to two other cars that I can alternately clean and install, but i dont think that i'll foul the plugs after about 30-45 mins of driving.

I have already begun to see the THICK, HARD carbon scaling turn into soft liquid.

Saturday will be the day folks.

Stay tuned.

(By the way i have already taken over 100 pictures of this project from pickup at the car lot, to the point I am at now.

Ill get photos of this too.

Where in Lawrenceville are you guys at Irv?
Wanna come snap the photos?

I wanna see photos

My car won't need that done to it for a long time, but I would like to see photos so that I can try that after my engine hits the 80,000 miles mark =/ (at about 20,000 miles now)

Theres a whole website coming about how to restore a RX-7.

From buying one to completing the restoration.

It'll take a while, but i'm taking 100's of pictures in anticipation of the project.

Hi there Mad Scientist. Was just wondering. Would'nt you want to turn the engine a full revolution to expose the next face on the rotors at sometime? I can see the atf oozing around the seals and getting in the other sides but.... Sure is a clean engine on the external side already. Nice pic. Never done this procedure myself. Learning.

Cool My ZEN rock garden..... The RX-7

Most of you don't know this, but my RX-7s are a calming source of serenity for me.

I know this sounds ****, but some people read, some sew, and some have ZEN rock gardens.

I have pristine 1991 RX-7s.

(One day i'll go REALLY overboard on my 1995 3rd gen - when i find it!)

I strive to get (and keep) them at the same level of cleanlyness and beauty as they were on the showroom floor.

As far as the engine work goes, I have before and after pictures of EVERYTHING.

I even make sure the pictures are taken in the same light, and at the same angle so that you can see the difference easilly.

(You see, my only real reward is that people notice the difference between my car and everyone elses. After all its not like i cbm gonna get the amount of money and time that I have spent BACK out of the car upon its eventual sale!!!)

So Yes, this newest car is getting everything returned to factory STOCK condition, I am even cleaning all visible paint in the engine compartment. (Also waxing everywhere i can reach, not only to make it shine, but it keeps it clean longer.)

Anyway, only AFTER the car is running stock, would I modify it.

And even then, it is an un-written rule that I dont do anything that can't be reversed.

Basically, I never modify an original part, i'll get a duplicate and modify it, or replace it with an upgraded or performance part.

As far as the engine ATF goes, I am turning the engine every 16 hours. (3 times a day).

However, when i said that the engine was FULL of fluid, I wasn't kidding.

The only face that doesn't have fluid on it is the face that has an open port to the exhaust. (But that face changes every 16 hours).

I originally bought this (my 4th) car because there was a nearly perfect vehicle hidden under alot of carbon, grime, and NICOTINE (interior)

(I am ignoring the fact that i found $2000 worth of apron damage to the front right of the car, i have freinds that are fixing that for nearly nothing)

I am currently dissasembling the interior completely whilst I wait for the ATF to dissolve anything organic in the engine.
(Which is going NICELY, btw ...)

I will restore the typical shattered dash parts that make the screws come loose and the insturment cluster move around.

I use JB weld, a small putty knife and some plastic forms to replace, re-assemble, and or fabricate missing sections of the white plastic dashboard skeleton.

After that I shave it bac to original shape, and replace the parts that once attached there.

(I's LOVES me some JB WELD!)

I will remove the leather interior and headliner, cleaning the life out of each.

I ALWAYS make about 25 gallons of 1/3rd 409 cleaner and VERY hot water (from the tub), and flood the interior carpet.

About 1 hour of scrubbing and flushing thereafter ensue....

I then pull the drain plugs and watch the BLACK FLUID that results, drain from the car.

(and i have to ge tit off the driveway fast - EWWWWW.....)

Years of Cokes, soft-drinks coffee, and all that dirt that have gathered, rush out, OUT, OUT!

Then, I rinse it 2-3 times with more HOT water, and then leave the car in the sun for a few days.

Voila.... (Bet you didn't know that this was a way to get that "new car smell" back! .... well it is....! at least for a few days)

You see, the new car smell comes from vinyl, leather and carpet, still releasing chemicals from its Mfgr.

The dirt and oils and Armor-All we put on, lock some of the last bits in...

Theres more, but now you have me quoting my new website and I certainly dont need to build the web site here!!!

I am the same way

With my RX-7(soon to be 7s) I am a maintainence cleaning **** (and have decided to keep almost everything stock, or at least keep all the stock parts and replace them with better ones for now...rusted exhaust has to go anyway..

The street-port is not my fault, previous owner =/ (not even much of a street port methinks, more like an experimental widening of the intake and/or exhaust ports...I'll find out when I crack her open in a year or 2.
