Talking radiator fitment question

I've searched the forum and got a lot of conflicting info! My question is will 89-91 radiator fit an 86-88 without any modifications and this is for a 5spd? I have an 88 GXL. I found some good deals for aluminum/steel radiators but they are all for the S5 models. The information so far that I've gathered is the only difference between both model radiators is the filler neck and of course the automatic models which I wont go there. I personally don’t like the look of the filler neck on the S5 model, but I am willing to live with it for the price break. The filler point on my oem radiator is on the center top as opposed to the S5 which on the drivers side.

What do you mean by fitting? The radiator mounting?

you will have to use the end plates off the s4 car and modify them to fit the s5 radiator.. I got a Koyo for an S5.... the holes for the end brackets were different than the s4 endbrackets.... so i drilled out the end brackets... no problem.

In case you didn't know.... the left and right sides of the radiator come off, that's what i mean by end brackets. they are attached by bolts at the top and bottom of either side.

So you installed the S 5 radiator w/ your S4 brackets.

As for the filler neck on the S5 radiator did you have any clearance issues, since its on the drivers side? Your stock radiator filler neck was on the center top of the radiator right?

Somebody else will have to answer that... the Koyo has a completely different neck, otherwise, it fits the same

Oh, that brings me to a question. Does it matter if the radiator is automatic or manual? I have a 89 n/a and found a 88 automatic n/a radiator. Just woundering if that will fit my car.

The radiator in my car is from an automatic.Fits just fine.Of course mine is a Series5 as is the radiator. With the right brackets the series 5 will fit in the series4 just fine and vice versa. I had a radiator from an 88 in my car for awhile but it started leaking around the bottom of the core. Sucked too because I like the filler cap being in the center instead of sticking out the side.

Ok I installed with no problem a series 5 Koyo in a 87 GXL. I just retained the brakets from the old radiator.
