try making one out of cardboard 1st, chip foose says that if you can make it out of cardboard you can make it out of metal. i also thought about having ducting to help it flow out of the engine bay.

The rule of thumb is to make the inlet cross-sectional area about 1/4 the size of the heat exchanger core, plus or minus depending on the use of the car. You want to try and place the inlet in a high pressure area, such as the lower front bumper of the car, and the outlet in a low pressure area. Use cardboard to test-fit everything as mentioned earlier in this thread. Follow this guide for relative dimensions:

Yeah I don't see a MAF so It's probably for a purpose that it's na. Maybe for a special class or something. Looks beast though...

So just curious. I'm out of work right now and don't have a shop to make my own sheet metal designs. Anyone know of places you can go to bring a cardboard cut out and ask them if they can cut it for you for a reasonable price?

Many race classes don't allow turbos, and overheating is definitly an issue on a race car regardless of whether or not it has a turbo. I think the car in that picture is missing an intake box around the air filter, as well as panels that should cover the wheel well gaps.

The stock FD RX-7 has a speed-density computer which does not use an airflow meter, but I would imagine that a car like that would most likely have a standalone EMS. Check your regional subforum for fabricators in your area.

The headlight covers are also fixed in the down position. Definitely not a street car.

well depending on how pretty uou want it one could with a set of tin snips, a rivet gun, drill and a vise could construct a duct themselves in a garage, but its not gunna come out as nice as one made using brakes and whatnot. still will work.. oh and dotn forget the HVAC tape.
