Radiator Choices ?

Koyo ? Fluidyne ? Or Mazda Competition Radiator ?

I read a lot about Koyo and Fluidyne. with mixed reviews but a bit more good things about Fluidyne than Koyo.

I have access to MazdaMotorSports and they do sell a Compeition Radiator.

Aluminum high flow radiator is bolt in replacement for stock unit. Thicker than stock at 3-1/4', it provides superior cooling in racing conditions
My FC has some stock garbage so yeah Im going to change it.

What do you guys think? thanks

Check out Godspeed radiators.
I just installed one a week ago and have been impressed with the performance and price.

What about the Corksport aluminum radiator? Anyone have experience with that?

Both the Godspeed and Corksport (also the Mazda Competition) are thicker than stock.
If you're still using the stock thermoclutch fan and shroud, there will be issues with clearance.

so. should I switch to electric fan ?

or cut parts of the shroud ?

I read something about it but nothing really specific.

Not sure.
Corksport sells a shroud that fits with their rad, dunno if it works with the others.

As long as you're replacing the radiator, it would be the easiest time to also swap to an efan.
Properly set up, an electric fan is way better than the stocker.

I've been thinking about an e-fan just because of the space you could gain. I didn't realize how much space the rad+fan+shroud take up until I saw some pics on here of someone doing up a custom intake on here...it takes up 1/3 of the bay!

The space and aesthetics are one reason to swap, but not really the most compelling.

The efan is simply much better at controlling temp than the mechanical fan.

This may not be 100% accurate, since the clutch fan only turns on when it's needed - a properly wired e-fan with thermostat would do the same. Neither would even be running when you're up to speed, since ambient airflow would be dong most of the cooling.

my koyo works awsome, but i paid way too much for it (because my car is just a casual tuning project)

the godspeed's on ebay are only like $200, they should work fine.

PS the radiator is not "high flow" is just a larger tanks and core, allowing the system to hold more coolant and therefor giving it a better cooling capacity.

I would disagree.
The stock fan never turns ON or OFF, it always spins.

IMO, the best argument for the efan is the cooling when idling.
In traffic, at low speed and RPM, the stock fan is producing it's least potential amount of airflow...just when you need it the most.
The efan on the other hand, pulls the same CFM regardless of engine speed.

Also, the efan (on a thermoswitch) is actually reacting to coolant temp while the thermoclutch is interpolating coolant temp by means of the surrounding air temp.

All this assumes the thermoclutch is still working like new...a risky assumption for a 20 year old part.

Im using a Fluidyne Radiator (rx7) direct fit with a BlackMagic (Red Shroud) E-Fan - some customizations may need to take place. No problems here just re-wiring it for my turbo at the moment.

Purchased Fan from Summit and Radiator from Absolute Radiator.

Do any of the aftermarket radiators have NO PROVISION for a filler cap?

I have an EARLY 1986 (With overflow reservoir next to the leading coil and fuse block) and my filler cap is on the thermostat neck. (The neck is aluminum, unlike the plastic one that doesn't have the cap.)

I hate having a capped off overflow nipple and a second radiator cap that does nothing... Like the goggles.
