Racing Beat Universal Power Pulse Muffler

Is anyone using this, and if so how is the sound reduction/quality?
http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=16025

i currently have a Magnaflow oval stainless steel muffler (straight through perforated core design) as a midpipe, but i want something quieter than that. i'm thinking of trying out this Racing Beat unit but i don't know if it actually will be quieter...

the only other options would be putting a catalytic convertor or multi-chamber muffler, but i'm not really interested in either...

so not many people have used these or what?
quality should be good since it is RB, just wondering about sound reduction...

"Tilt" your muffler, and it'll be more effective.

are you referring to the actual positioning of the rear muffler at the bumper?
i'm just interested in putting something in between my RB header and Magnaflow muffler (that is at the end at the bumper).
right now for that i have a Magnaflow oval muffler, but it's still quite loud at WOT, so i'm looking for something quieter.

They look like the Racing Beat mufflers, without all the Hardware that you get when they sell it in the Whole system(like the shiney Tip that says RACING BEAT on it!.haha!).Afterall they Do come in Two sizes, and I am thinking that one is N/A and the other For the Turbo application..(could I possibly Be correct?..Nah!).

No, I'm talking about not lining up the muffler perfectly with the pipes.
This is how Racing Beat gets away with a "free flowing" muffler that's is straight-through.
In fact, you can stick a broomstick inside the muffler, and it'll go all the way through - so it's the same design as your Magnaflow?

The Walker Dynomax UltraFLO mufflers are the same thing.

The key is to allow the exhaust gases to hit the side of the perforated pipe and not shoot straight through the muffler.

Adding mufflers will not quiet down the exhaust that much.
If you're lucky, you'll get an RPM range which is quieter - this is called pulse tuning - but it doesn't kill the exhaust noise throughout the entire RPM range.

ok, i see what you are saying.
actually this was the reason i am using a Magnaflow "offset" oval muffler, because the pipe is not really straight, the inlet is on the opposite side of the muffler body compared to the outlet. but still, it is not all that quiet.
i am assuming then this RB muffler won't really be much difference.

Ted do you know of any good reference material for exhaust pulse tuning?
i would like to get rid of noise mostly around highway cruise RPM, about 3000-3500.

Wow, all this time I thought is was a straight straight muffler. :P
Yeah, if it's offset, then it should quiet it down pretty good...

Try to position a muffler right where the main cat would be or slightly toward the rear of it.
The RB exhaust systems quiet real well up to 2k or a little higher, but they all drone above that.
If you run a muffler slightly more rearward, it will kill some of the resonance higher up in the RPM band.

actually i have the Magnaflow offset oval right after the RB header, so right where the main cat would be. so i guess that was the right thing to do, haha.

it's still loud though. i guess an NA rotary with a header is a little hard to keep quiet.

to avoid further confusion my exhaust system currently is:
RB collected header -> Magnaflow SS offset oval -> 2.5-inch pipe -> Magnaflow SS round muffler (straight through type)

this isn't too loud at light throttle and lower RPMs, but crusing above 120kph on the highway is annoying, and at WOT it is LOUD.

i'm tempted to try one of those multi-chamber mufflers, Magnaflow has some, but i'm a bit tentative on that.

i also hear Borla is good, but their designs seem the same as Magnaflow so i don't see much difference.

one disconcerting fact is that i think some of the stainless steel wool packing has gone from my Magnaflow oval muffler. it's only been a year, and considering it has a lifetime warranty, this proves how violent rotary exhaust can be!

maybe replacing the Magnaflow muffler i have at the bumper with a $242 Racing Beat Turbo muffler is the answer to the noise?
http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=16445

has anyone used one of those mufflers as a single muffler (i have a single exhaust system, not dual)? 2.375 inch ID should flow enough for an NA...i think.

Actually, I think it's a bit too further up the exhaust.
You'd want the "pre-silencer" to be right behind you in relation to where you are sitting in the car.

to avoid further confusion my exhaust system currently is:
RB collected header -> Magnaflow SS offset oval -> 2.5-inch pipe -> Magnaflow SS round muffler (straight through type)
Get rid of that last muffler, or at least offset the pipe going into it.
I run a Walker Dynomax UltraFLO like that, and it's fricken loud after 3kRPM's.
I've stuck a Borla ProXS muffler with the offset, and it quiets it down a LOT.

yeah i can't do much about putting it further back, it's connected directly to the RB header right and i don't want to move and remake custom pipe behind that. but it is pretty much right at the seat position, if not a little behind.

i've been thinking of the Borla Pro XS, i might try that.
the setup i have now makes decent power for a stockport NA, dynoed 154whp on a Mustang dyno. but it is basically my daily driver, so i don't want this much noise on the highway.

Nice!

154 on an MD is like 170 on a DynoJet easy.
That's some serious power out of an NA!

What you could also do is put another muffler behind the one you got in the center.
I think there is enough to stuff another one back there.
That should help with the noise.
Although the set-up will look funky from underneath, I'm sure we can get the noise down a little bit more.

Good luck!

thanks, i was surprised i could get that much out of a stock port NA with stock ECU (just SAFC to tune fuel). i'm sure the exhaust has a lot to do with it so i don't want to change it too much.

i will do a bit more research and try something, and post before/after results.
there are some good threads in the 1st gen forum also, i guess they have more experience with quieting down an NA.

or what you chould do is get a resinator in sted of all those mufflers and it will quite it down alot. like the setup I have stock header->2.5 inch pipe->resinator-> 2.5 inch y pipe-> 2 flowmaster mufflers. ya it sounds like a hemi muscle car but it is cool to see a stock looking 7 that sounds like it has a hemi under the hood.
( I even have to phone dials on it)

Im running these resonator type exhaust tips, they quiet the car down a decent amount and actually gives it a deeper tone. Thats one way I have tried quieting it down a little. I currently have a small hole starting to form in my muffler after 5 years of having my dynamax system. Gotta get new ones here soon!!

i am going crazy trying to come up with an exhaust setup. this will be the 4th time i have changed my exhaust system so i want it to be right this time!

ok, two things:

1) the damn Magnaflow stainless steel oval muffler i had right after the header i think is blown out! what the hell, it's not even been a year. they have lifetime warranty on it so i will see if i can get a new one...and sell it.

2) what do people think of running a single RB Turbo muffler?
