Racing Beat Exhaust Question

Ok, so I will be picking up a red 89 TII next week (word!) and one of the fist mods I do will be replacing the old stock exhaust which is falling apart. I am VERY interested in the racing beat full catback (http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset.asp?PartNumber=16425 ) which claims a 59 HP increase on a stock 87 TII. Is this true? Can anyone share their experience with this exhaust with me. I am aware I will need an FCD and new boost guage as well.

Thanks,
Mauz

u will need fuel mods to run full boost... the best thing you can do for our cars is the exhaust... especially turbos... but there whole 3" exhaust system and buy a set of bigger injectors for the secondaries... 720's? maybe... then go nuts

You stated cat back, but RB picture is turbo back. For turbo back I would say that's correct, but not emmissions legal. Don't know whether you need to worry about that in mid west

Yeah, I mean turbo back. And no, I have no need to worry about emissions in Iowa.

Keep in mind the 59 hp increase would be at the flywheel, not the rear. Rear would see about 50 hp on a perfect engine, you're more likely to see a 35-40 rwhp increase.

The stock ecu's and fuel injectors will support 275 flywheel hp very easily. You will not get up to that hp level with just an exhaust.
There is no need for bigger secondary's yet, and you can't just "throw them in". You need some sort of fual management or you will lose power at 3800 rpm whent he bigger secondaries come on and you run super-rich.

My recommendations are this:
-Walboro fuel pump (or other)
-fuel pump rewire
-add an intake
-make sure you don't hit over 10 psi (you shouldn't...). Might wanna port your wastegate while it is off (even on an S5 turbo)

I'm about to put that same exhaust system on my 88 TII, (as soon as it's running again..) and I was wondering if I was facing any potential problems too?

So far I have installed a walbro fuel pump and an aftermarket boost gauge.

fuel pump rewire?

I was hopeing I'd hit 11-12 psi, are there any dangers if this is the case? running to lean?

I heard adding an intake might cause boost spiking?

Also, do I run any risk of spark knock or detonation?

personly I woudn't run over 10 with and fcd and stock ecu/injectors. with an intake and RB you'd probably hit 15.

with my 89 with RB and stock intake I hit 10 at wot in 4th. I'm adding a cat soon to hopefully lower that so I can build an intake.
