Race Report: NASA at Thunderhill Group 3/4

I've been doing open track stuff for 3 years, mostly in my Trans Am, and finally now in the RX-7.. I'm an advanced driver, but never would run in Group 4 with NASA (Open passing everywhere) because I didn't want to tweak my street car.. Now that i have the RX-7, I don't mind, and I'm never, ever looking back.. I have never had so much fun in my life. 4 of us in race prepped RX-7s (1st and 2nd gens) were running in a pack, just picking off other cars (safely of course), running as hard as we could. I often would get frustrated with previous open track events, when I would get bottled up behind a slower driver, I had to wait until the next passing zone, and never really trusted the other drivers, even when open passing was allowed.. Here, everyone was generous, no one made stupid moves, and we all brought our cars home in one piece.

I ran a 2:20, which is slow compared to the ITS leaders (2:09s).. From what all the RX-7 guys said, my car definitely has the power to get there, I just need to fix the handling so they don't leave me in the corners.. Even the 1st gens would whip me in some of the more complex corners (I'd just catch up fast on the straights )

Here's some pics.. I got some KILLER in car video, I'll try to cap that this week.

Yes, I passed the Viper, he wasn't very fast, though I got passed by his buddies shortly there after

One of the first gens, we're in turn 3

Instructor driven WRX, full cage.. very nice car..
