Race for $100 should I or no...
I have a 87 na with K&N air filter and racing exhaust. With the original engine with 185,000Km's on it. Im guessing its 15-16 seconds on the 1/4 mile.
Anyways my friends dad wants to race me for 100 bucks. He is driving a '83 toyota supra celica turbo. No mods. but its dual cam and the whole bunch.
Just wondering if im gonna win or not. I dont have 100 bucks to lose.
anyone know the stock times for the supra celica turbo?

I've raced and beat a supra celica by 2-3 car lengths. I was stock at the time. That car was 5 speed, had intake and exhaust (i think thats all he had). A turbo supra celica should be a good race. Do your homework and If you decide to race him, good luck. If not then use the 100 you were going to use and mod your car.
p.s Maybe he shifts like a grandma.

Daryl,
Toyota did not make a Supra turbo until '87. The only engine for the '83 Supra is the 2.6 DOHC (maybe it was a 2.8, can't remember). It's been a long time. I used to have a '83 Supra 8 years ago.
Are you sure about the turbo part? Is it an aftermarket turbo? If so, stay way as turbo mod'ed car are hard to predict.
If it is a stock car, you s/b slightly faster w/ your mods. But driver skill will decide the outcome.

Boosted_FC is right, the MA60 never came with a turbo from the factory...here or Japan. It either has the 5M (2.6) or 6M (2.8) engine. I do remember hearing a while back that some dealerships would install turbos and cover it by warranty, but you've still got a challange on your hands. If it has the stock 6M (NA), you're looking at 150hp, but about 175lb-ft of torque. Car weights around 2700 lbs. You be the judge, it's your money.

I'm sure in 83 there was no such thing as a celica supra, only the older supras were called that. the 82-86 supra was only called a supra. also none where turbo. they had the 6me 2.8 inline 6. not too much power. however they are easy to turbo, I think the 7m turbo manifold bolts straight up.
if it is turbo stay away.
if it is turbo stay away.
