Unhappy R.I.P. rx-7

well i was just a little over 2 months into the rotary world and friday night my rx-7 caught on fire. i was going to order the new part on monday to prevent this, but i guess i waited a little too long. im going to get an estimate, but most likely ill just end up getting a new car. i think im going to take my time and try to find a good deal on a 3rd gen rx-7. i dont see too many for sale around here so i have a fealing its going to be a while. for now, im just going to drive my piece of s@*t 92 ford probe.

i forget what it is called, but it is located on the top of the engine. from the factory they were made from plastic and the replacement is made of metal. it causes a gas smell to come from the car.

depending on how bad your fire was... you should be able to reuse your housings and rotors IE: engine... other than vacume hoses. if you got the fire put out on time the engine SHOULD be salvagable.

I think.

i hope so. it was on fire for about 10-15 minutes before the fire department got there. the hood is done. the first thing they did was take an axe and cut the hood open. ill find out tomorrow how bad it is. it was dark when it happened and i couldnt see it very well

That's quite a long time for it to be on fire. Did you turn the car 'off' while it was burning, or did you leave it on? Probably will need new intake manifolds, hood, TB, wiring harness, fuel lines, vac rack, and so forth.

A fire on the outside probably won't do much harm to your shortblock, but everything else I stated is probably wrecked. But then again it could have melted the crap out of your strut towers, who knows, until you pop the hood it'll be hard to tell. Got a digicam?

I've got to get a PD - Where's a good place to get a new one for an '86? And is it something you can put on yourself?

you can get them from mazdatrix (www.mazdatrix.com). if youre pretty comfortable with working on stuff, then you should be able to do it.
