This was my first major accident ever. The psychological aftermath of knowing that someone died because they hit your car is unbelieveable. I almost feel like I'm a 3 year old in a dark room with noone around to protect me.

Get a lawyer now.

I have never meant this MORE than I mean it now.

I have suggested it to others, but I have experience with this having been a legal assistant for a few years (a while back), and this time I MEAN IT.

YOU MUST GET LEGAL REPRESENTATION!

Call a lawyer MONDAY.
Follow through with this completely.

You WILL get a LARGE settlement and somthing BETTER than what you were driving and all your hospital bill paid.

There should be an INTENSE pain and suffering settlement as well.

The guy that ran that light, then tried to leave, was certainly asking for what happened to him.

The justice in the fact that he actually GOT it, is debatable, but not somthing I think we should question here.

PROMISE me that you will get a lawyer to protect yourself!

If you need a referral, I can try to get a name for you.
but it would be easier for you to find a lawyer that will work on contingincy.

Thank goodness for insurance:

Quote:

I was traveling northbound on interstate 82 going through Kennett Square, PA when I stopped at a redlight at the intersection of interstate 82 and route 926. The light turned green and I proceeded to drive foreward. I was about 3/4 of the way through the intersection when I glanced right and saw headlights out of the corner of my eye. I was struck hard on the passenger side of my car and thrown into oncoming southbound traffic. The car that hit me ran a redlight and turned into me. The car that hit me then swung around and hit a 4 door white car containing 4 teens. After everthing came to a stop, I looked out my now shattered drivers- side window to see me in my lane, but with my front end twards the opposing lane. Within 15 seconds, the wheels of the car that ran the redlight started to spin and the guy laid on the gas and rammed me on my front drivers side hitting my wheel dead-on. This threw me straight on the road and put me back in my lane. When I got out of my car I noticed my head had gone through the drivers- side window and my hatch was gone. Only when I went over to look at the 4-door white car on the other side of the street, did I notice a 3 1/2 ft chunk of my rear hatch-window laying about 8 ft from the curb in the grass on the opposite side of the road from where my car was. I roughly guessed that the hatch window was about 20-25 ft total distance from where my car ended up--leading me to assume that the guy who ran the redlight hit me going quite fast. After put in the ambulence and taken to Jennersville ER, I was treated for neck trauma and released into my fathers costudy around 2:30 AM. Right when I was about to leave the hospital, my doctor informed me that she had called the other hospital and that the guy who hit me wasa 20 yr old found DOA from severe neck trauma (completely broken neck) about 3/4 mile up the road from the accident. I am yet to know if the driver was drunk, or on drugs, and if he had insurance. At this point, the accident, even though not my fault, is a total loss. I'll be lucky to get back the $ for the hospital bills.

Actually, My father contacted a lawyer friday morning around 9am. The accident happened thursday night around 10:30. We're still awaiting the police report. If any of you live in or around kennett square and get their newspaper (I believe it's dubbed The Kennett Wire), would any of you mind checking through the paper the next few days for a write-up on this accident? If you find one, I would really like it. I'd go buy one myself but none of the newsstands around here carry that paper, and it's about an hour drive from here. I go down there today to see my car for the first time since the accident, so I'll get a paper then... but I dont know if there will be anything in the paper about it. But if there is anything released--I'm going to be very pissed b/c the police still havent told me anything. All I know is that the kid was 20, and had a broken neck and died. And all that was told to me by a nurse and not an officer. When I contacted the officer about information on the case, and told him that I understand the man responsible was DOA, he paused for a few seconds then said "I can not release any information on the case at this time." and that's the last they've talked to me. Boy I hope he had insurance.....

I am not a religious man, but if there is a God, he was with you. I am very glad you are ok. Looking at those pictures sent chills up my spine. Glad you're ok, and good luck in your legal battles.

I just got home. The garage that has my car closed early for some reason and I couldnt get in the gate to see it. So I drove down to where the accident was. The plastic shards and light fragments were still pushed along the sides of the road. Black skid marks from my car went a few feet then jarred left when i was hit. I found shards of glass from my hatch far from the curb on the other side of the road. I drove up the road in the direction the guy went after he fled the scene. There were skidmarks the whole way up from both him, and the people he almost hit that tried to get out of his way. The man was a 20 yr old from West Chester, PA. He was driving a 1996 Grand Am. I got somewhat of a police report in the mail today. All it contained was the driver/car information for insurance purposes and whatnot. There was an insurance company labeled on the letter. But that doesen't tell me if he had insurance. It could of expired or had been dropped previous of the accident--but it is a good sign none-the-less.

From the positon of my skid marks to the road the guy came off of and hit me from, it was clear that he actually turned into me. If he would have gone straight, he would of nailed the 4 door infinity dead on the drivers side door. So in some views, it was almost a godsend I was there, otherwise there would have been more then one dead person.

But I feel so sorry for the family of the driver of the Grand Am. He was so young.

For the record... I don't know if the guy was drunk, or on drugs. But I can only imagine that someone who would drive into me twice and try to drive away would either be insane, or under the influence of something...
