Quieting my exhaust

Hey guys.

Got an 88 NA with RB headers and a noname header back exhaust. Its huge. 2.5 inches at least. It is simply too loud. I would like to put the complete RB set on, but I can't justify putting another grand into this car just to make it tolerable to drive.

The other problem is the exhaust is welded from the headers back.

I'm tired of getting hassled by cops while Harley's drive right by. Is there anything I can do besides getting a new exhaust?

No.
You could have a muffler shop weld in a resonator (in-line) muffler, but it might cost as much as getting a better exhaust (used).

Racing Beat is a bit pricey, and though I love my REV T2 setup, there are definitely much more affordable options. Just do some digging, make a few calls to shops and ask about what they can do for you. They'll want your business even if it's not to install an entire system.

Btw some exhaust shops can be very reasonable. SOME.

My exhaust is all kinds of pieced together. I didn't like the fact that it was 3" straight piped back to 2 mufflers, and even with a turbo that was too loud. I took a 3" fart can and modified it to make it an inexpensive resonator. $30 was all it cost me, and I was worlds happier once it was on there. If you can't weld or don't have a welder, take it to a hole-in-the-wall muffler shop and get some price quotes. Don't be afraid to shop around. I'm sure you can get a decent price. Whatever you do, don't let them weld on a glasspack. The FG inside will melt and subsequently solidify, giving you a serious rattle. If they use the words "Thrush" or "Cherry Bomb", politely decline and find someone else.

Rent, buy or borrow an exhaust cut off tool, install yourself-no welding.
