The T2 will have a plate that you can remove where the gear set is. Its about 5"x10".

I believe the N/A has the bellhousing molded onto the gearbox, and the TII isn't.

look at the driveshaft, the TII drive shaft is a more beefier driveshaft compared to the N/A driveshaft, but here lately with all the swaping going on, just look for the 5''x10'' "pan" that can be unbolted for inspection of the gears (under car, and on bottom of tranny right by the gear lube drain plug)!

whats the purpose of recognizing a t2 from underneath you should be able to tell what it is by looking either a threw the hood scoop and spying the top mount or b. threw the nose at a front mount. other wise if your looking to buy a true t2 pull the vin and have your insurance pull a check for you. either way it's a turbo'd fc all the above will work but swaping the t2 drive line into a n/a powered car isn't an entirly uncommon set up.

The TII trans also has 2 drain plugs, one for filling and one for checking the level. The N/A transmission has a single plug.

Yep plugs are easiest. Turbo tranny is also ribbed, Na is not.
