quick question ( turbo )

quick question ( turbo )

can i take off the front part of the turbo to polish it? or will it have to be balanced and junk if i do this? turbo is off the car just wanted to make it look better

You mean the compressor housing right (the round-ish thing with the air inlet and outlet)? You can take that off easily. Nothing will need to be balanced as long as you don't mess with the compressor wheel (You'd have to do something very wrong).

Be very careful when you're pulling it off not to mess up the blades of the compressor wheel, the tolerances between the blades and the housing are very tight. Just undo the bolts in the back of the housing and lift straight up, and carefully line it up and let it straight down when putting it back on.

I have a crappy ebay turbo in my garage that I've experimented with taking apart before. As long as you're careful and work slowly, it'll be fine.

And make a mark across the backside of the housing/backing plate so you can get the orientation right again. A scribe pen or sharpie works well.
