quick question s4 and s5 identification

sorry guys, ive tried searching (cant search for "s4" or "s5" as they are too short) and using the faq, and nearly all the links int he 2nd gen faq, but i cant find the answer to this-
i picked up a base to tII conversion a week ago, and i cant ID the engine. ive got an assload of parts that came with the car, some are s4 and some are s5.
the engine needs to be rebuilt, but i can get a jspec s5 for ~800 bucks.
the question is: how do i know what engine i have? i cant tell if i have the s4 or s5 (sorry, im new to 7's, just got out of nissans) 13b by visual aid.
i dont have the omp, as it was a premix car, so i cant id by that (if you could actually tell by the mech vs electrical omp, which i dont know anyway). and ive tried looking for dates on the engine. is there anything else i can quickly look at to see?
thanks in advance

if the knock sensor is in the rotor housing, above the spark plugs, its an S5 (or using S5 rotor housings). If the knock sensor is in the center iron just to the front of the base of the filler neck, it is an S4.

The MOP block-off... if it has 3 bolts, its S5, if it hase 2 bolts, its S4.

The Oil metering pump on the bottom passenger side fron cover will have a rod going up to the throttle body if it's S4. If it is S5 it willjust be an electrical unit with no connecting rod.

If the upper manifold is off you can see if it has an EGR valve. Only Series 4's have them. It will be on the center housing.

The throttle body will have one Throttle position sensor(TPS) if it is Series 4. If it's Series 5 it will have 2 TPS's.

The Vacuum rack will have a boost controller solenoid near the oil fill tube if it is S5. If it is S4 it will have a twin scroll actuator near the hotside of the turbo.

I think those are the main external differences which are easy to pick out.

There are other things like a some what bogger inlet for the intercooler and a few changes to the upper manifolds.

The front covers have bigger OMP points for S5's since it's a larger unit.
