quick question regarding my used alternator

hey guys so my alternator in my 87 gxl went out, so i got a used one and put it in today. after getting an electrical and alternator test the machine read it charging at 12.5 amps, its a 60 amp alternator so i was just wondering if this was normal or is it not working properly, or at full potential rather..thanks

wrong alt, wired wrong.

The 87 GXL uses a 70 amp alternator stock.

And running the alt should be putting out at least 13.5 volts, so the wiring is wrong for the alt you have as well
