Just look at some pictures and you see the difference. Some differences:

S4: Black bodyside molding with groove in the center, "Mazda" emblem was a decal, grille below bumper made up of two slots with small brake ducts on either side, lower edge of nose piece is a simple arc with no indentations, turn signal lenses are amber, entire bumper panel is spaced away from the fenders by a black rubber molding.

S5: Body colored bodyside molding with groove at bottom, "Mazda" emblem made of raised letters embossed into the plastic, grille below bumper is trapezoid-shaped and recessed and was painted black at the factory, brake ducts are larger than S4 and have built-in fog lights on GXL or Convertible, lower edge of nose piece has a recessed section, turn signal lenses are clear, bumper panel fits flush with fenders and has no separating rubber molding.

Yes, they are interchangeable. For the complete "S5" look, you'll want to pick up all the bodyside moldings from an S5 car to go with the front and rear bumpers if you care about them matching, appearance-wise.
