quick question about EGR valve

quick question about EGR valve

i removed and replaced all my vacuume lines yesterday and i was putting on new injector connectors today and i just desided to look at the egr and to see if it had good vacuume and should it stay opened with vacuume (mine isnt) and the rubber looks cracked from over the years. could this be my 2k idle and not being able to set idle. the car also makes a funny spuddering noise at higher rpm. basicly can anyone give me a brief description of the egr and the what happens when it goes bad (can i block it off) does anyone have a good one for sale

It can affect idle, depending on how it "breaks". If you're already in there, put a temporary block-off plate over the housing opening, and see if this helps your idle. If it does, time for a new valve, if you need one for emissions...

so your saying that a block off plate might work, i hope so i dont wanna pay 200 for that thing , emissions are not a problem in nc i had a saab 9000 turbo with no cat with really bad carbon build up (it was sitting for a while) and they said it was perfect.

ummm....... took off my egr today and there was nothing under the thing it was completely flat underneath didnt look like filler unless someone did a great job covering it up, but why would they put the egr back on if that is what happend. do i have a s5 motor in my s4 body, i think i read the s5 didnt have egr's is that true.

what are the four things with vacuume lines and orange,blue,white,and yellow dots and color code connectorsare those important

Off the topic but i took off the air pump and everything that goes along it and WOW even with the upper intake &tb off it looks like a completely different engine under the hood
