quick idle question
quick idle question
I know that the proper idle is 750 rpm. I am currently looking to purchase my first turbo2. The seller has shown me 2 videos of the car running. In 1 video the car starts and revs up to ~1.1k rpm and drops to 1k. In the other video it appears that it is idling just below 1k rpm.
Is it normal for fcs to jump up to 1k rpm if the warm up 3k doesnt happen? Is this a simple tps fix or could this be covering another problem?
if you guys would like to see either video, they can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/user/jeff1fc3.../0/NzHBINiyQCc
Thanks!
edit:
i noticed in the steady idle that the coolant temp was about 25% up. When it full warms up should the idle rpm drop to 750? thanks

If it's an S4 ('86-'88) ~1/4 of the way up on the gauge is full operating temp. So, the thermowax on the TB should have allowed the throttle plates to rest against the throttle stop at that point. If it will not idle below 1k, the throttle stop or air bypass screw on the BAC can be adjusted to drop it down. But, I will say that having a high idle in the 800-900 range can actually be very nice. Little changes in mechanical/electrical load don't affect the idle speed as much when it's boosted a little above the stock spec.
thanks, yeah its a s4, its a 88. I read somewhere that a higher idle could just be masking other problems. does anyone know any more on that? and whether a 800-1000rpm idle could mask other potential problems?
