quick header question

I'm looking at getting either the mazdatrix dual outlet header < make true duals > or the RB road/race header which can also be made as duals.

My concern is that the Mazdatrix exhaust narrative mentions that 2psi is req to open the 6 port actuators.
The header section has a blurb below the dual outlet headers that states that these headers will NOT alow the 6 ports to open.
Man, someone posted on the 2nd gen forum that noon operational 6 ports can drop 15-30hp off your top end! WTF!!!!
I dont want to leave the airpump on if I dont have to. but, is this the only way to get them to work properly with a dual outlet header?
Thanks!

you could wire them open but that will suck power from your low end. There is some info on fc3s.org (.org or .com i forget) on electric port accuation. Good luck

you are a missing the point. the header that is sold by its self does not have the feature that allows for the auxilary ports to open. you can have it done for like 1or2 hundred extra.

about the air pump you don't need it if you have no cats period unless your car is a S5 but your name suggests otherwise.

I have the duals and they are worth the money just to take off your old stuff and bolt on the new exhaust without fabbing anything up. the ports work fine for me(well the one that is not stuck anyway) the duals even come with a free block off plate and a mazdatrix sticker.

In your name it says that you have an 87 TII but in your profile it says you have a S5 vert. If so you will have to keep the air pump no matter what unless you wire the ports open. However you will loose the little low end tourqe leaving you with nothing down low.

You can also do a search for electronic operation of the auxilary ports and you might find something that works. I have heard of people being able to operate them with an electric pump. I don't know much about that though.

and with non functional ports you probably will loose about 20-25hp in the top end.

If this is going on your S5 vert (which i'm assuming it is), don't worry about it. the 6PI and VDI are driven off the air pump on S5's. Assuming your air pump is in good working order you shouldn't have any problems.

what if you have an s4? Just leave the air pump on there and the ports will open no problem?

If you have an S4 you need to find a way to activate the ports with your airpump if you want them to work properly.

I removed my 5th/6th ports and the low end isnt that bad. The only problem is starting from a stop can be tricky with hardly any power at 1000rpm.

Yep, on a S4 N/A the aux. ports are opened using exhaust backpressure. On a S5 they are opened via the airpump.
