quick coolant question

im winterizing my fc for the winter. I know its not a boat but ill only periodically start it up and im not sure on how my coolant mixture is at the moment. I was thinking of replacing with a 50/50 mix of coolant. Im kind of stuck on one thing. how do i flush out all the coolant still inside the engine block when the motor is cold? i dont want to do it with a warm engine? could i remobve the thermostat to achive what i want to do? thanks -alex

There is a hex plug on the driverside of the engine that is used to drain the coolant.

14mm, IIRC, it's the forward lower "bolt" in the engine mount bracket. One of them, anyway, lol...Get a flashlight-you'll see it. If it's stuck, don't manhandle it, or it could shear off...

now, if i do that, that would leave the block coolant-less correct? could i remove the T-stat to allow coolant to run through the block immediatly after i start her up? thanks -alex

yep pretty much. Dont be an idiot like me. I replaced my thermostat after over heating a few times and blowing all of the coolant out of that car and the block and when i refilled it I kept putting water in the resevoir thinking it would somehow magically find its way to circulate to the block. You are going to have to drain the radiator and the block both am I not correct?

if i do drain my block, and my rad, assuming that im doing this when the engine is cold, the t-stat will be in the closed position. If i fill the rad and run the engine, since the tstat is closed, the coolant wont run to the block. so what im asking is do i have to remove the tstat in order allow the coolant and air in the block to circulate through the rad where im filling? or will the coolant just flow throuh the lower coolant hose until it flows to the t stat? thanks -alex
