quick alternator question

I've had the FD alt on my S4 for some time now and it keeps draining the batt. if I remember right one of the wires on the alt need to be set to battery reference rather then switched power based on the ignition. I just don't remember which wire it is. anyone give a hand here?

but can't seem to find which wire needs batt access. and I could just run this wire straight to the positive post on the alternator instead of all the way to the batt?

here is a pic to a wiring diagram.

You have to run the wire straight to the battery. You can't put it on the post of the alternator because then the will not know what the voltage is at the bettery and may not charge at all since it will see 14.5-15.0v, while at the battery it could be below 13v.

when I tried to wire it in like that I kept hearing something that sounded like a clicking like when I turn my ignition switch on. I'm just wanting to make sure do I keep the normal wire that used to go to my alt hooked up as well or just d/c that one and run the s terminal directly to the battery removing the wire that was there before?

No, you need to re-wire the alt like the diagram. You do not re-use the original ignition wire
