questions for the fc gods

Hey all,
Now I have done numerous searches and found different refering informations.

I just got my rx7, and i took it for its first drive the other night at low speeds there is a clunk noise, feels like im rolling over a small cat, you can feel it in the steering, but as you get more speed up it goes away.

The car has aftermarket mechanical lsd and i wanted to know is this a normal action for mechanical lsd or is it most likely my diff mounts or both?

Thanks,
Steve

check rear mounts, driveshaft to make sure all the bolts are tight, check for fluid in rearend, and check u-joints.

Thanks for the quick reply,
More info is that it does it in reverse aswell. But disappears completely at high speeds. I found a heap more info, its just hard trying to find the words to search for.

Is it constant while moving (slowly), or just when you lift off and/or reapply throttle?

Common failures are the front diff mount (will cause the diff to "nose down" on speed changes) and driveshaft. Both will cuase clunks. But ANY wear in the suspension (especially tie rod ends, ball joints, end link bushings, steering rack, etc.) can cause clunks, so troubleshooting may involve jacking the car up and rattling suspension until you find the loose part.

What kind of aftermarket diff is installed? I'm very cruious, as my diff is showing all of it's 260K...
